BARK RIVER, Michigan — One of the most iconic traditions in Bark River International Raceway history is making its long-awaited return.
As part of the 50th Anniversary of Bark River International Raceway, the Richard Ault Legacy Long Jump will take place on Friday, August 14, 2026, bringing one of off-road racing’s most memorable spectacles back to Bark River. The Long Jump has long been a fan favorite, drawing thousands of spectators eager to watch drivers launch their vehicles through the air in pursuit of distance, glory, and a place in Bark River history. Over the years, the event produced countless unforgettable moments and became one of the most anticipated attractions of race weekend. Historical records indicate that the Long Jump record stands at 190 feet, set by Jerry Whelchel of Irvine, California in 2006.
This year’s long jump will honor the legacy of Richard Ault and the passion for off-road racing that he shared with his wife, Mary. Together, their longtime support of the sport and commitment to Bark River community helped make Bark River International Raceway the success it is today. As of now, the Richard Ault Legacy Long Jump will feature a $10,000 purse, with the Ault family contributing $6,000 for the winner's payout. Additional event details and prize announcements will be released in the coming weeks as plans continue to come together for the return of this historic competition.
“We could not think of a more fitting way to celebrate our 50th Anniversary than by bringing back one of the most legendary events in Bark River history,” said BRIR Officials. “For decades, the Long Jump has created stories and memories that are still shared throughout the off-road racing community today. We extend our sincere thanks to the Ault family for honoring Richard's legacy in such a meaningful way. Their generosity will help create new memories for today's racers and fans.”
The Richard Ault Legacy Long Jump will be held at Bark River International Raceway's 50th Anniversary, Friday, August 14, at the Island Resort and Casino Off-Road Rumble in the U.P. Presented by Race-Driven Polaris.
As preparations continue, BRIR is also working to preserve the history of our event.
